My Commitment to Berkeley Residents:

  • Safe, habitable, stable housing that is affordable for citizens of all income levels
  • Building more affordable housing for city residents with moderate and low incomes
  • Maintaining Berkeley’s ethnic, international and socio-economic diversity
  • Stable secure housing with consistent therapeutic services for homeless citizens with dual diagnoses of mental illness and substance abuse
  • Single-family homeowners’ rights to live in a house or accessory dwelling unit (in-law cottage) without fear of harassment or displacement from their private property
  • Advocate for older adult tenants and property owners who fear displacement due to increased regulations that strain their resources and impact their health
  • Fair representation of housing stakeholders: tenants, landlords and property owners
  • Address complex housing issues and respect perspectives of those who build housing for all income levels
  • Support tenant cooperatives as a reasonable option to rental housing
  • Support policies and regulations that address rising property maintenance costs
  • Support agency transparency and accountability for budget allocations and how monies are spent
  • Protecting tenants, especially our most vulnerable seniors, disabled, immigrants, children and youth from unwarranted rent increases and arbitrary evictions
